Bookmarking is not user-centered

The current system of bookmarking is not user-centered. Existing tools ask where to save information, rather than why it needs to be saved and how it will be used in the future. Technology simplifies the process of saving information but does not make it useful. What’s the point of having a lot of information if you can’t access it?

Labeling information puts the user at the center by involving them in a process that only concerns them. Emphasize the information’s content rather than its location. Users don’t care where information is saved, as long as they can access it when needed. The file and folder system has been the same since the first operating system was created, and we should be able to get rid of it because it generates cognitive overload.

After labeling information and determining how it will impact the user in the future, the software should follow the user, not the other way around. A user-centered approach means making the software follow the user instead of the user following the software.
